The Rudolf Gallery

The long Rudolf Gallery adjoins the Spanish Hall and dates from the same period as its neighbour, at the beginning of the seventeenth century. It is named after Habsburg Emperor Rudolf II, to house his vast art collections, made up of paintings, works of art and curiosities.

The gallery and the neighbouring chambers were built to the designs by Antonio Valenti and Giovanni Gargioli. In later years, the collections were broken up and many items were moved to Vienna. The gallery acquired its present form in, sumptuous white and gold, in the nineteenth century, and is 48 metres long, 11 metres wide and 8 metres high.

The Rudolf Gallery is occasionally open to the public.
