Located at the interface between Old Town and New Town, Náměstí Republiky is one of Prague’s focal points. It takes only 5 minutes to walk from the Republic Square to the Old Town Square. The large beautiful art nouveau building, Obecní Dům (Municipal House) dominates the square. It is a home to a gallery, concert hall, restaurants and reception rooms and occupies a key position next to the Powder Tower on the edge of Old Town. Facing Obecní dům is the grey facade of U Hybernů.
The square is also the site to a large and modern shopping center Palladium that opened in 2007 and is one of the biggest shopping malls in Prague with a restaurant floor. Palladium offers a great deal of shops on clothing, health and beauty products, sporting and household equipment, cafée, bars and much more. Náměstí Republiky also has a metro station (B line) and a tram stop with good tram connections for those arriving from Holešovice and Prague 8. Náměstí Republiky is also the sight of many luxurious restaurants, hotels and last but not least, the farmer’s market held weekly.
