The Black Tower

The Black Tower dates from the twelfth century and was part of the Romanesque fortifications of the Castle. The Tower, which was also a debtor’s prison, stands on the former eastern gateway, which was moved near to where the current Lobkowicz Palace stands. The new gateway gives access to a viewing platform and the Old Castle Steps (Staré zámecké schody).

From Jiřská ulice, between the Old Burgrave’s House and house No. 8, a flight of steps leads to Golden Lane, one of the most popular parts of Prague Castle.
